Sharp Shooters raffle gift for Christmas

Tuesday, December 28, 2010

The Bourbon County 4-H Sharp Shooters announced that Ross Schwalm, Fort Scott, was the winner of a Daisy Air Rifle Gift Package on Dec. 21 (an $85 retail value), which was being given away to raise funds to purchase additional equipment and ammo for the club. The Daisy Grizzly Air Rifle, a soft side gun case, a package of 6,000 BB's, targets, safety glasses and package of Shatter Blast Targets was donated to the club by two businesses in Fort Scott. Tractor Supply donated the air rifle and Rock Bottom Gun Shop, owned by Rocky Brown, donated the accessories. Club members, led by instructor Gary Buntain, sold $1 chances over a period of five weeks. They were at Tractor Supply on Nov. 13, at Woods Grocery on Nov. 20, at the Stocking Stuffer Craft Show at the 4-H building on Dec. 4 and again at Tractor Supply on Dec. 11. The winning ticket was drawn on Dec. 18 and the gun was presented on Tuesday, Dec. 21 to Schwalm. Tractor Supply also donated hotdogs and buns and Woods Grocery donated cases of pop for the kids to sell to raise additional funds for the club.

Gary Buntain commented that the club members sold approximately $611 in chances which will benefit the club greatly with new equipment such as new BB guns and ammo. Club members who braved the cold and bad weather to help sell chances over the last couple of weeks included Morgan Manly, Myla Manly, Jacob Pemberton, Dawson Minor, Katie Brown, Caden Webb, and Michaela Webb. Enrollment in 4-H shooting sports has increased this year to approximately 20 members, which is a significant increase over past years. Members can participate in BB gun, air rifle, and smallbore 22 rifle, all under the instruction of Buntain.

A big Thank You goes to everyone who helped with the fundraiser by donating items to raffle or time to sell chances.
