Uniontown girls blast Crest; boys fall

HUMBOLDT, Kan. -- Uniontown's girls blasted Crest, 80-19, on the final night of the Humboldt Round-Robin Tournament here to finish in second place. Erie, which defeated Uniontown, Thursday, won the tournament after beating Humboldt, 51-13.

Crest won the boys' team title after beating Uniontown, 34-29. The Eagles finished in third place. Erie defeated Humboldt, 49-30, to take second.

Eagle girls (3-1) led 23-6 after one period. The fourth quarter was the only one in which they didn't score at least 22 as it was played with a running clock.

Breanna Esslinger scored 21 points as she made 7 of 9 three-point shots, breaking Erin Eldridge's school record.

"We really got it going early tonight," Uniontown head coach Ken Holt said. "Breanna shot lights out from beyond the arc."

Jacy Ermel added 13 points for the Eagles. She and Hayden Rathbun had 6 rebounds each. Rathbun also had 6 steals and Lauren Rockhold dished 5 of the team's 24 assists.

No one had more than 6 points for Crest (0-4).

Uniontown boys (2-2) lead 7-2 after one period but were outscored 17-12 in the second. The Lancers (3-1) outscored the Eagles 7-3 in the third to take the lead, 26-22.

"We had our chances down the stretch and they just executed better," Uniontown head coach Nathan Hinrichs said. "We need to learn from this and get better."

Brenton Esslinger led Uniontown with 9 points.

Uniontown will play at St. Paul Tuesday night in a Three Rivers League doubleheader.
