City will wait to fill economic development position
Just days after Dale Bunn's resignation as Fort Scott director of eeconomic development, the city is now making plans to move ahead.
The separation, which Bunn called "a joint decision," came Friday after both the city and Bunn agreed to move in different directions. Bunn's resignation ends his four-year tenure with the city.
"I wish Dale the best. He resigned and I wish him the best of luck," Fort Scott City Manager Dave Martin said.
In the wake of Bunn's resignation Friday, Martin has decided that he will be taking care of the duties being left by Bunn's departure.
"I've already been heavily involved in economic development since I took over," Martin said.
According to Martin, the city will not be looking to fill the position immediately. He said he plans to take a step back and evaluate the current economic development situation and determine what the identity of the position should be in the future. Martin said he plans to get input from the community during that process.
"I'm not going to put the job out there immediately. I need to get a handle on exactly what the position entails and what we need to do," he said.
Bunn served as director of economic development for four years and was involved in several projects including the Good Neighbor Blitz, Phoenix Committee, and most recently, the community rehabilitation project. He said that he will miss being directly involved in economic development in Fort Scott. However, he does plan to remain in the area and find another way to show his support for the community and its economic growth.
Martin added rumors that other city employees were dismissed Friday are untrue.
