Woman found dead after Friday fire

A Nevada woman is dead after an early morning fire in her apartment at 701 W. Garfield Street in Nevada early Friday morning. The body of Christie Hargrove was discovered when the Nevada Police Department went to the address on a request to check the well being of the resident, discovered that the apartment had been on fire and called the Nevada Fire Department.

According to Captain Kevin Scott of the Nevada Fire Department, "a deceased individual" was discovered in the residence, where the fire had burned itself out. Vernon County Ambulance District personnel were dispatched to the apartment and an investigator from the Missouri Fire Marshal's office also was summoned. Deputy Vernon County Coroner Larry Joggerst arrived on the scene at 8:30 and pronounced the victim dead.

An exact time or cause of death has not been determined. According to Joggerst an autopsy will be performed. The cause of the fire is undertermined at this time and the incident is under investigation by the Missouri State Fire Marshal's office. Hargrove's dog was also found dead in the home, according to Joggerst.
