More tidbits, happenings

Here are some more "tidbits and happenings."

The other day I was walking through the bathroom door and for what reason I don't know, but I happened to notice that the door knob on one side of the bathroom door was silver and the other side was gold. Funny, but I don't remember Bob saying anything recently about changing a door knob. So, without thinking I hollered to him in the front room, forgetting he was watching the Packers game, how could I be so thoughtless.

Anyway, I asked him if he would come out and look at the bathroom door. Very reluctantly he came storming out, grumbling his head off, because the Packers had just kicked off and wanted to know what in thunder (insert your own expletive) I wanted.

So I asked him, "When did you change the knob on the bathroom door, it must have been recently, as I hadn't noticed it before?"

He looked at me as if I had lost my marbles, and said, "Let me see, we moved out here 46 years ago and that is the way it was when we moved in."

So I mumbled, "Sorry, go back to your Packer game."

How could I possibly live here all those years and not notice something like that?

In church today, as I was leaving, there were the 3 to 5 years olds all sitting in a pew, with their teacher sitting beside them. I said hello, and looked at all of them. Before they could answer their teacher said to one of the little boys, give the lady your bag.

He held it very tightly and said, "No, it's mine." She said, "Remember, we made them for the ladies in church." She had to literally pry it from his hands and handed it to me.

What was I to do? I said, "That's OK, he can have it." But she said no, it was mine. So I thanked all of them and headed out the door. There was a card inside the bag saying "We are thinking of you" and they had all signed their names, including the teacher. It was a quart jar with a piece of fall material around the top, tied with a big bow, and a note saying it was potato soup, and all I had to do was add some water. By golly it was quite tasty and we had it for lunch. I still feel sorry for the little guy.

Last but not least, a while back I was doing some shopping at Aldi's grocery store and saw they had those round yummy watermelons for $2.99 each. We love watermelon so I plunked one into my basket.

When I got home, I left it on the table in a small basket for about three days to make sure it was ripe. When I cut it open, the inside was pure mush and completely rotten. I didn't have my receipt, and I wasn't about to take the rotten melon to the store because it might be several days or even a week before I went shopping again.

But the following week when I again went shopping at Aldi's, as I was checking out, I mentioned it to the check out girl.

She said, "That's OK, I will just take the $2.99 off of your bill."

You can bet your bottom dollar that they have me for a regular customer.
