OSWEGO, Kan. -- Uniontown's volleyball team, ranked No. 1 in Kansas Class 2A by the Kansas Volleyball Association, opened Three Rivers League play by sweeping Oswego and Altoona-Midway here Thursday night.

The Eagles (2-0 TRL, 10-0 overall) swept Oswego 25-8, 25-12. They then beat Midway 25-3, 25-14.

Jacy Ermel recorded 6 kills against Oswego. Jessie Camac had 4 kills. Tayler Shook was credited with 13 assists and Tiffany Poyner had 14 digs.

In the Midway match, Ermel had 7 kills while Nietfeld had 5. Shook dished 11 assists and Lauren Rockhold had 9 while Poyner had 11 digs.

"I was extremely pleased with the way our girls played," Uniontown head coach Jackie Hall said. "They played very intense, aggressive and smart. We passed well, which enabled our setters, Tayler and Lauren, to deliver the ball to our hitters well."

Rockhold was making her first appearance as a setter, Hall said.

Uniontown had long runs where it held serve. The Eagles served 13 straight points at one point in the Oswego match and 11 in a row twice during the Midway match.

The Uniontown varsity will be idle until Thursday when they make their annual trek to Riverton for a non-league quadrangular. Galena and Columbus will also be in attendance with action beginning at 5 p.m.
