The USD 234 Board of Education met Wednesday for a special meeting to approve a payment for a roofing project at Winfield Scott Elementary School and address other matters.

Board members approved a request for payment from Midwest Coating, Inc., a commercial roofing contractor based in Topeka, for the Winfield Scott roofing project. The board also approved an agreement between USD 234 and the Southeast Kansas Community Action Program (SEK-CAP) for payment of a paraeducator position at the Fort Scott Preschool Center.

In other business, the board:

* Accepted the resignation of Rick Comstock, a custodian at Eugene Ware Elemenatary School and Fort Scott Middle School.

* Approved the transfer of Joyce Flanner from kindergarten teacher to fourth grade teacher at Eugene Ware.

* Approved the employment of supplemental personnel.

The board also voted not to approve a contract extension for Moreen Smith, a cook at Eugene Ware, due to recent changes at Winfield Scott and Eugene Ware involving the reconfiguration of both schools into attendance centers for the 2010-11 school year.

The board also conducted an executive session to discuss personnel matters for nonelected personnel and to discuss matters relating to employer-employee negotiations whether or not in consultation with the representative or representatives of the body or agency.

The board returned to open session and adjourned after no further action.
