FCE remembers old time games

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

The Starlite Family and Community Education Unit met June 17 at Cavalry Crossing. There were 12 members and 11 guests present.

Following refreshments, Clarice Russell presented the nostalgic lesson entitled, "Old Time Games and Activities." Clarice had many games to demonstrate how children of yesteryear were entertained. Also, many games requiring physical activity were discussed. Many of us could remember the names of games, but had forgotten how they were played. It was a refreshing touch of nostalgia shared.

The business session was opened with each lady naming her favorite childhood pastime. A few named bicycling and riding horses as special activities. The minutes of the May meeting were read and approved. The treasurer reported no new bills. Fifty three volunteer hours were noted as most were donated as a special cookie project that provided treats for nearly 100 workers on the Good Neighbor Blitz which was held June 10 through June 15. While serving cookies and a drink to the workers, members had the opportunity to share information about F.C.E. Many workers asked about our club and understood when we referred to old-time names of Home Demonstration Unit or Extension Homemakers Unit that some of our rural mothers used to belong to.

A schedule for volunteering time at the Bourbon County Fair, July 18-24 was passed around for signing.

The next regular meeting will be August 19 at the Genealogy Library, located at Third and National. The meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Each member is to fill out a "family tree" form and bring it to the August meeting including any questions on researching data. Also it was decided that we would take up a special collection in our August meeting for the "Pennies for Friendship" proj ect.

The meeting was adjourned and many cookies were shared.
