UNIONTOWN -- Southern Coffey County's girls dominated the middle two periods, outscoring Uniontown 36-20, and went on to a 61-42 victory in a make-up game here Saturday night.

The boys' score was not reported by press time.

The Eagles (10-6) led 14-13 after one quarter of play.

"I thought we played well tonight," Uniontown head coach Ken Holt said, "except for a couple of let downs: One in the first half and one in the third quarter, when they made a run that we didn't respond to. It seemed to take the air out of us."

Jacy Ermel led Uniontown with 19 points but unlike other nights, she was the only Eagle to reach double figures in scoring. Abbie Smith was next with 8 points. Ermel and Smith also had 7 rebounds each.

Kristin Stephens led SCC with 16 points followed by Kaitlin Meyer with 13 and Shelby Birk with 12.

"SCC is a really good team with lots of weapons and seniors who have been playing (varsity) for three or four years," Holt noted.

Both teams shot roughly the same percentage from the field. SCC made 24 of 53 field-goal tries for 45 percent while Uniontown hit on 17 of 38 for 45 percent (rounded up from 44.7). Rebounds were nearly even as well with the Titans holding a 24-22 edge.

The Eagles handed out 16 assists with Smith dishing 5 and Breanna Esslinger delivering 4.

Turnovers were also about even with SCC committing 23 and Uniontown coughing up the ball 22 times. Hayden Rathbun had 3 of the Eagles' 8 steals.

Both Eagle teams will go on the road tonight to face Central Heights at Richmond. Viking girls are the leaders in the Pioneer League and are 10-4 overall. Heights boys are second in the Pioneer League behind Central Heights with an 11-3 mark and are ranked No. 10 in Class 3A by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association. Central Heights' teams swept Wellsville in Pioneer League games Friday night.
