Madeline Slaughter, age 77, of Prescott Country View Nursing Home passed away peacefully Monday, Jan. 18, 2010. Madeline was born Oct. 28, 1932 at Milfay, Okla. She was the daughter of Jewell Ann and Woodrow Barker. Madeline attended elementary and high school at Milfay.

She married Gene Slaughter on March 12, 1950. Madeline and Gene had lived in the LaCygne area since 1957.

Madeline was a homemaker and a housewife for many years before beginning a career as a care giver at Swan Manor nursing home in LaCygne and later at the Tri- Co adult center in LaCygne.

Madeline is survived by two daughters, Marsha Wunderly and husband Joe of Fulton, Kan., Cathy Widner and husband Dan of LaCygne, Kan.; two sons George Slaughter and wife Chris of Neodesha, Kan., David Slaughter and Kim Coons of Louisburg, Kan.; two sisters Bobbie Beasley and husband Leon of Shawnee, Okla., Sherry Nelson and husband Keith of Ottawa, Kan.; three brothers Johnny Smith and wife Mavis of Ottawa, Kan., Joe Smith and wife Maralene of Rantoul, Kan., Terry Smith and wife Charlene of Pleasanton, Kan.; 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Gene Slaughter on June 24, 2004.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday Jan. 21, 2010 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel in LaCygne, Kan. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel.
