PRATT -- A 12-3 run to start the second half set the Pratt Community College women's basketball team up for a 61-55 win over Fort Scott Saturday night in the annual PCC Thanksgiving Classic.

Pratt (3-7) was tied with Fort Scott at halftime, but got a 3-point goal from Phylicia Freeman, a putback by Dashia Williams and another basket by Freeman to open up a 37-30 lead three minutes into the second half.

After Fort Scott's Kasey Teich hit a 3-pointer, the Beavers got baskets by Freeman and Taylor Lockridge to make it 41-33 with 13:20 left.

The 'Hounds (5-3) cut Pratt's lead to four at 47-43 with 8:34 left, but Kikki Pinder's steal and layup started a 10-2 run that all but sealed the win for Pratt.

Fort Scott got within six at 59-53 with 1:12 left, but Shadara Hampton missed a three and Bell grabbed the rebound with 35 seconds left.

Fort Scott had to foul, and Bell made both ends of the one-and-one for a 61-53 lead.

The Beavers hit 25 of 62 field-goal attempts while holding Fort Scott to 22-of-61 shooting on the night.

The Greyhounds had a 42-41 rebounding advantage, but they also had 15 turnovers to Pratt's 11.

The Beavers got 11 points from sophomore Whitney Slater, who also helped hold Valencia Kelley, Fort Scott's leading scorer, to just 10 points.

Freeman and Laramie Lawrence each had 10 points for Pratt. Hampton led the Greyhounds with 14 points. Brittany Demery had 11 points and Teich finished with 10.

Kelly and Joy Hathaway had 6 rebounds each for the 'Hounds.

The Greyhounds defeated Dodge City on the first night of the classic, 67-50, Friday night. Efforts to gain more information from that game from the athletic department at Pratt were to no avail.

The Greyhounds open Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division play Wednesday night with a 5:30 p.m. contest against Neosho County. The men will follow at 7:30 p.m.

Conference play begins early this season due to the decision to move the Jayhawk Conference Shootout to the second weekend of January. The 'Hounds will also have a conference game Saturday at 5 in Coffeyvillle.
