Eagles eliminated from Kansas 2A volleyball tourney

HAYS, Kan. -- Uniontown's volleyball team went 1-2 in pool play here Friday and was eliminated from the Kansas Class 2A State Volleyball Tournament.

The Eagles were upset in their first match by sixth-seeded Moundridge, 24-26, 27-25, 25-12. This put Uniontown, the third seed, in a position where it had to win both its remaining matches to make the semifinals.

Uniontown came back off the opening loss to sweep seventh-seeded Oskaloosa, 25-14, 25-20. But second-seeded Lebo dealt the Eagles a 26-24, 22-25, 25-14 loss in the final match of pool play.

Top-seeded Oberlin (39-1) and fifth-seeded Blue Rapids-Valley Heights (34-10) advanced out of Pool A. Oberlin won all three of its matches while Valley Heights was 2-1. Moundridge won Pool B at 3-0 while Lebo was second at 2-1.

Oberlin will face Lebo (37-5) in one semifinal while Moundridge (34-9) will take on Valley Heights in the other. Both semifinals start at 2 p.m. this afternoon with the third-place and championship matches to follow at about 3:15.

Uniontown's season ended with a record of 34-7.
