Clinic to be held for H1N1 vaccine

A clinic will be held next week to help distribute the H1N1 vaccination to two of the priority groups.

The Bourbon County Public Health Office will hold an H1N1 vaccination clinic from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2, at the Bourbon County Public Health Office located in the building behind the Bourbon County Courthouse, 210 S. National Ave.

Bourbon County Health Nurse Alice Maffett said the vaccinations are available to pregnant women and caregivers for children under the age of 6 months. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has instructed counties to focus their efforts on these two groups for the vaccination.

"There are other high risk groups ... but those are the two groups they're asking us to emphasize with the limited quantities of vaccines we are having come in," Maffett said.

KDHE has been receiving smaller shipments then they anticipated which has lead to a more focused effort in providing the vaccine. Maffett said as more of the vaccine becomes available, more clinics will be scheduled at a later date for the remaining priority groups.

Maffett said although the clinic is scheduled to run until 6:30 p.m., they may quit earlier if they run out of vaccines. No appointments are necessary during this clinic. For more information or to schedule a vaccination for another time, contact Maffett at (620) 223-4464.
