Bourbon County looking for answers

The search for more information continues as Bourbon County Sheriff's Office investigates a vehicle chase Wednesday night.

Bourbon County Sheriff Ron Gray said there was believed to be a vehicle chase involving two Bourbon County citizens which traveled across the state line on U.S. Highway 54 resulting in an accident near the Trail Blazer Steakhouse in Deerfield, approximately 2 miles east of the border. The Kansas Highway Patrol and the Vernon County Sheriff's Office responded to the accident only to find the subject had fled the scene. According to Gray the suspect has not yet been located.

Gray said his office is currently investigating the situation in attempts to find out what happened. He said stories are not adding up.

"We're still trying to talk to witnesses and see what we have," Gray said. "There is probably more to this story than is being told."

Although the stories have not been confirmed, Gray believes something must have happened to lead to a chase.

"It amazes me how all of this supposedly happened in town and nobody saw anything," Gray said. "I'm still boggled by it."

Multiple attempts to contact Vernon County Sheriff Ron Peckman were unsuccessful.
