Lawrence Edward "Eddie" Akin, age 66, resident of 203 No. Eddy, Fort Scott, Kansas, died Monday, June 29, 2009, at the Landmark Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. He was born July 26, 1942, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Rudolph Carlton Akin and Melba Evelyn Epler Akin. Eddie was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Vietnam War. He was a 1960 graduate of Fort Scott High School and a 1964 graduate of Pittsburg State University with a degree in Economics and History. Eddie was retired from the City of Fort Scott street and water department. He was a member of the Zion Methodist Church and a member of the Olson Frary Burkhart Post #1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include a brother, Carroll Akin and wife Sylvia, Overland Park, Kansas; and a sister, Rosemary Wakefield, Prescott, Kansas. Also surviving are three nephews, Craig Akin, Wichita, Robert Akin, South America, Troy Post, Ayr, Nebraska; and two nieces, Linda Kallai, Grant's Pass, Oregon, and Millicent Dohr, St. Louis, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert Akin and Carl Akin; and a brother-in-law, Rodney Wakefield.

Pastor Gary DeMott will conduct funeral services at 8:00 A.M. Friday in the Cheney Witt Chapel. The Eulogy will be given by Troy Post. Burial will follow in the U. S. National Cemetery with Military Honors by the Post #1165 V.F.W. Memorials are suggested to the Fort Scott High School and may be sent to Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, Kansas 66701.
