Visits help ease transition into, out of middle school

In order to help ease the uncertainties some students have trying to transition from one school building to another, teachers at Fort Scott Middle School spent time visiting with fifth grade students and teachers at Fort Scott High School visited with eighth grade students recently.

During their visit to the middle school on May 11, the fifth grade students were guided on a tour of FSMS in order to familiarize them with the building's layout. In addition, they were also walked through a "Rise and Shine" session by the sixth grade teachers. Each sixth grade teacher spoke to the students about different middle school-related topics, such as needed school supplies, sports, activities, locker usage, homework and general expectations.

At FSHS on May 14, the eighth grade students were welcomed to the new school and given handouts of the many activities which occur at the high school. FSHS club sponsors and members visited with the students, giving them short descriptions of each club. The students were also treated to theatrical performances by the FSHS drama class, and were taken on a tour of the high school. Before heading back to the middle school, the students were given ice cream in the high school commons area.
