About 65 preschool students from Sunbeam Christian Preschool recently donned caps and gowns in order to participate in the school's three separate graduation ceremonies.

According to Sunbeam director, Marilyn Barker, who began the school in 1979, the school has grown during the last 30 years. Barker said when she first began teaching the preschool classes, she only conducted a morning and afternoon class during the week. Demand for Barker's teaching has increased so much through the years that she now conducts three different classes during the week.

According to Barker, some of the preschoolers she taught when she first began her preschool are now bringing their children to her classes for instruction. She said she not only teaches the students the necessary skills to succeed in kindergarten, but she also teaches them about God.

"I am a Christian," she said. "I want to teach Christian values and help the kids remember the Bible stories. We teach them (children) Bible verses and Bible stories as well as all the readiness skills for kindergarten."

Barker said preschool plays an important role in helping children as they move through life, and she wants to provide pleasant memories for the children she instructs.

"Preschool helps by giving your child more opportunities to become successful," she said. "I want anyone who went to my school to have a happy memory and I want to help build the faith of small children."
