Fort Scott city department heads were available for the City of Fort Scott's first Open House Wednesday.

Approximately 50 local residents attended the event in which they could mingle with the department heads and ask questions.

"A few people have asked questions and we've answered them," Fort Scott City Manager Joe Turner said.

Turner said the main topic throughout the day was the city's spring clean up program and how well the program was working. He added many people also mentioned nuisances around town such as lawns which are not being maintained.

One resident who thought the event was successful was Wilma Leach. She said she attended the open house because she has never met the Turner or Fort Scott Codes Administrator Amanda Proffitt.

"I just wanted to meet the new city manager and support the city," Leach said.

Leach said she works with the city with the Mother to Mother Ministry of Bourbon County. She said it was a good opportunity to meet with Proffitt and discuss the conditions of some of the homes being rented in Fort Scott.

Turner said the turnout was about what he was expecting. He added the city will plan to hold the event again.

"This is our first, we plan to have one every spring," Turner said. "We hope to get the word out a little better next year."

Leach said she plans to attend if the event is held again.

"I live in the county so I don't go to every city commission meeting," Leach said. "It's nice to go and talk with them about things going on in the city."
