Mabel Irene Leer, 82, Nevada, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2009, at Moore-Few Care Center following a brief illness. She was born November 16, 1926, in Milo, Mo., to Charley Prince Scott Sr. and Alta Marie Mowrey Scott. She was married May 26, 1945, in Nevada, to Clifford Leon Leer and he preceded her in death November 1961.

Mrs. Leer grew up in Milo, and graduated from Nevada High School in 1945. She worked as a nurse's aide for 39 years at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Wichita, Kan., and was a Baptist. Following her retirement, she came back to Nevada and has lived here ever since.

Survivors include one son, Michael Leer and his wife Mary, Hays, Kan.; one daughter, Linda Perkins and her husband Carl, Branson, Mo.; four grandchildren, Kristene Strumillo, Kansas City, Mo., Scott Denning, Wichita, Kan., Amanda Leer and Randy Leer, both of Hays, Kan., and three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Fetters, Fort Scott, Maxine Halcomb, Nevada, and Velma Bobbett, El Dorado Springs. She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse; one infant son, Terry Wayne; one brother, Charles Scott Jr.; and two sisters, Lolly Pearl Scott, and Jessie Buenning.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 27, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.
