Mona R. Hedges, age 78, former resident of Fort Scott and more recently of Ottawa, Kan., died Friday, April 3, 2009, at the Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa.

She was born Feb. 24, 1931, in Garnett, Kan., the daughter of Floyd D. Stevenson and Dorothy Spencer Stevenson.

Mona married Lawrence Donald Hedges on Feb. 4, 1967, in Fort Scott. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1999.

Prior to her retirement, Mona worked in housekeeping at the Best Western Motel in Fort Scott.

Survivors include two sons: Ronald L. Rice, Ottawa, Kan.; and William M. Rice, Springfield, Mo.; two daughters: Kathleen DeWees, Ottawa, Kan.; and Dianna Hack, Pittsburg, Kan.

Also surviving are two brothers: Floyd Stevenson, Marietta, Texas; and Larry Stevenson, Ottawa; two sisters: Leeta Sweet, Parker, Kan.; and Judy Miller, Garnett, Kan.; and seven grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Smith.

There was cremation. Pastor Chuck Russell will conduct graveside services at 1:30 p.m., Friday, April 24, in the U. S. National Cemetery.

Friends may meet at the cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kan.
