ONLINE FIRST: Severe weather headed toward Bourbon County

In a National Weather Service conference call earlier this afternoon counties along the Kansas/Missouri boarder are advised to take precautions as storms move north from Okla. During the call it was noted that the storms would build in intensity as they travel north.

According to the National Weather Service, hazardous weather expected tonight include tornadoes, gold ball sized hail, damaging winds up to 70 m.p.h. and heavy rain leading to localized flash flooding. Bourbon County should expect the sever weather to being around 7 p.m. and should continue through early morning hours.

According to Bourbon County Emergency Manager Keith Jeffers, a State-wide tornado exercise is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday for Kansas and Missouri which may be canceled. He said the decision to cancel has not yet been made.

Bourbon and Vernon Counties are among those listed in as in the storm's path.

The National Weather Service is predicting widespread strong to severe thunderstorms will again develop over the region by Tuesday afternoon. Primary hazards will included large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes cannot be ruled out at this time.
