New guests attend dance, others celebrate birthdays

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

It was a nice evening and the attendance at the senior dance at Buck Run Community Center was about the same as last week.

At 5 p.m. the tables and chairs and most of the stage was ready for the evening. Thanks to Bonnie and John Gaddy and Dick Babcock. They do a good job.

I had been informed that Lucille Smith, my helper in the kitchen, wouldn't be able to come tonight. So I called Carol and George Davenport to see if they were planning on coming tonight. He was better and she said they would be there to help me in the kitchen and getting ready for the evening.

All went well and as people came in George already had the tables set for the food to be placed on or taken to the refrigerator.

Then we all sat down and enjoyed a cup of coffee, a bit of candy and a visit about the latest news of our dancers.

The first thing we had to get cards out to be signed. We had a get well card for Lucille Smith and another get well card for Wanda Haley, who had surgery Monday morning in Joplin. There was also a sympathy card for Marcetta Smith, her husband Darrell Smith passed away last Friday in Arma. He had been in a rest home there for quite some time.

At 7 p.m., we called John Gaddy to the front. He will celebrate his 80th birthday Thursday. He was presented a birthday cake and we sang 'Happy Birthday' to him. Pictures were taken and we gave him a hand of welcome. He was one in the line up last Monday night for the January birthdays.

Marion Shrimplin will celebrate his birthday next Saturday and we gave him a hand of welcome at break time.

We had new guests tonight again. Mary Cohen, Hardwood, Mo., and Alford Bean, Rich Hill, Mo. We gave them a hand of welcome at break time after being introduced. We hope they will come back again.

We did the usual chair dance, which most people take part in and the Line Dance, which new ones join the line and try to do it.

There will be a dance at Cadmus, Friday night and Marion Shrimplin brought over a bulletin advertising their dance will start again Friday night. It will start at 7 p.m. again and the charge is $3. Hope it all gets going again for them.
