R. Joyce Lucke, 78, of rural Girard, passed away Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at her home.

She was born May 22, 1930, at Fort Scott, Kan., to Ralph and Hazel (Cummings) Lockwood.

She attended Fort Scott schools and graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1947. Joyce was employed in the insurance industry for the majority of her career, with the exception of the time she spent at home with her children. She was awarded her CPCU degree in San Francisco in October of 1992.

At the time of her retirement, she was accounting manager for American States regional office, in Fort Scott.

She was united in marriage to Leonard Lucke on May 9, 1954, at Fort Scott, Kan. He survives of the home.

Joyce was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. At the church, she was a member of the Ladies Aide, LWML, the Alter Committee, Memorial Committee and attended Bible classes. Joyce was an avid reader and enjoyed making homemade quilts.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard Lucke, a son, Greg Lucke, of Kansas City, Kan., a daughter, Karen Starks, of Wright, Wyo., nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Joyce was preceded in death by a brother, Grant Lockwood.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Pastor John Stubenrouch officiating. Burial will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home of Girard.
