UNIONTOWN -- Uniontown still had a chance of gaining a Class 2-1A playoff berth but Pittsburg Colgan put an end to those hopes with a 41-0 win in Class 2-1A District 7 play here Thursday night.

The Panthers (8-1) got their first two scores quickly as Chas Smith returned a punt 76 yards and running back Alex Evans scored on a 29-yard run in the first quarter. Kyle Hammond added a 14-yard scoring run later in the period to give Colgan a 20-0 lead.

Evans scored twice more in the second on a 27-yard pass from Smith and on a 55-yard run.

Smith threw another touchdown pass in the third period, connecting with Stuart Jeck from 10 yards out.

David Shank led the Eagles (4-5) with 33 yards rushing on seven carries and 25 yards receiving. That accounted for all but seven yards of Uniontown's total offense on the night.

Shank also led the defense with 12 tackles while Johnathan Hausenchild was in on 11.

The Eagles could have still made the playoffs if Pleasanton had lost by 13 points but the Blu-Jays defeated Northeast-Arma, 52-0, to clinch the second playoff berth for themselves.

Colgan gained 353 yards in total offense, 218 on the ground.
