Blu-Jays take part in league meet
BURLINGTON -- Cross-country teams from Pleasanton High School and Pleasanton Middle School took part at a meet here Thursday that served as the Three Rivers League championship meet.
The TRL varsity meet was combined with a meet Burlington was hosting, so each athlete has a placing within the race as a whole and also among the league runners.
The varsity boys' race, run over a five-kilometer course, saw three Pleasanton runners finish among the top 10 in the league. Kelly Wadel was fifth among league runners and 29th overall with a time of 20 minutes, 44 seconds. Dennis Moore was sixth among league runners in 21:18 and Rance Schoenhals was eighth among league runners in 22:24.
Also competing for Pleasanton were Cole Nickell, 12th in the league in 25:16, and Daniel Barber, 13th in the league in 26:20.
Rachel Richmond was third among league runners and 29th overall in the 4K girls' varsity race with a time of 18:35. Cheyanne Reynolds was seventh in the league in 21:18.
Crest swept team league honors. They took the boys' title over Pleasanton, 15-23. Crest's girls were the only full team and won with a score of 10 points.
Zack Louk of Marmaton Valley was the TRL boys' champion in 19:16. Italy Loving of Crest was the girls' champ in 17:25.
JV and middle school results were not also scored as league events. In the boys' two-mile JV race, Kyle Walker finished 22nd for Pleasanton in 17:12. In a one-mile seventh-grade girls' race, Autumn Newill was 11th in 7:25 and Autumn Secrest was 18th in 7:49. In a one-mile sixth-grade girls' race, Savannah Reynolds was 19th in 8:16.
Pleasanton will act as host school for the Class 2A Regional Meet thus Saturday at Sugar Valley Golf Course near Mound City. Jayhawk-Linn will also host a Class 3A Regional there. The first of four races is expected to get underway at 3 p.m.
