George to receive Engineering award

Thursday, August 14, 2008

President and Chief Engineer of Agricultural Engineering Associates, Inc., John George, Uniontown, is being honored and recognized as an American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) Fellow for his long-time agricultural engineering consulting practice, and for outstanding innovations and developments to livestock production, waste management, and water resource structures.

In 1974, George founded his consulting firm and is considered to be the first in the profession to establish and sustain a successful consulting firm as a sole source of income. He and his firm have delivered technical services in livestock facility design, permitting, and nutrient management to an estimated 4,500 projects in forty states and ten foreign countries.

A 38 year member of ASABE, George has shared his knowledge of the profession through a level of Society involvement, which has included authoring technical papers, making presentations, and lending expertise to technical and professional committees. He has served as chairman and director of the Structures and Enviroment division, and has served for two terms as a Foundation trustee.

George is a charter member of the biological and agricultural engineering department's Industrial Advisory Committee at Kansas State University, and has served in all of the committee's officer positions. He is a registered Professional Engineer in twenty states.

Only a total of twelve individuals are to be inducted into the 2008 class of Fellows, and the ceremony is to be held July 1, during the 2008 ASABE Annual International Meeting, being held in Providence, Rhode Island.

To be considered, an individual must demonstrate unusual professional distinction, with outstanding qualifications and experience in the field of agricultural engineering. Twenty years' membership in ASABE is also required. Only about two percent of the active members of ASABE have achieved the grade of Fellow.

The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers is a scientific and educational organization dedicated to the advancement of engineering applicable to food, agricultural, and biological systems. It was founded in 1907 and it's headquarters are located in St. Jospeh, Mich.
