Lightning believed to cause falling rock at Scottish Rite

Wednesday, June 25, 2008
The Scottish Rite Temple sits abandoned on Monday after lightning struck the top of the building early Monday morning, knocking large chunks of rock to the ground in front of the building. The building was roped off for safety reasons most of the day because the lightning hit a 400-pound decoratiive piece which sat on top of the building, causing it to become loose and unstable. For safety reasons, local law enforcement suggested that the Bourbon County Chapter of the Red Cross, located in a building just south of the Scottish Rite Temple, close its business until the building was more stable. Workers were able to remove the loose piece of stone. The portion of Main Street in front of the Temple was once again accessible to motorists by Monday evening.
