Velma Colean Fowler, 72, of Girard, died at 12:04 a.m., Tuesday, June 14, 2008, in the Girard Medical Center, in Girard.

She was born June 4, 1936, in Cato, Kansas, a daughter of Tom and Etta (Russell) Noe.

She married Donald E. Fowler on April 4, 1952 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on May 30, 2008.

She worked at Pittsburg Pottery in Pittsburg and later at Phillips Industries in Halstead, Kan. She was a homemaker and later moved with her husband to Gallup, New Mexico. They retired to Grove, Okla. in 1992, moved to Mesa, Ariz., in 2001 and to Girard in 2007.

She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, quilting, bowling, and fishing.

Survivors are daughters Connie Stevens and her husband, Chuck, of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Cheryl Ballou and her husband, Paul, of Fort Scott; sons are Carl Fowler and his wife, Sharon, of Girard and J. D. Fowler and his wife, Ressa, of Girard; thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ronda Fowler, a great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Ballou, a brother, James Noe, and her sisters Pauline Kennedy and Florene Jones.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Rev. Ken Sommerfeldt officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery near Pittsburg. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m., Thursday, at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard.
