Donald Eugene Fowler, 76, of Girard, died at 7:50 p.m., Friday, May 30, 2008, in the Girard Medical Center.

He was born July 30, 1931 in Wyandotte, Okla., a son of Milton "Dick" and Gladys (Balcaum) Fowler.

He married Colean Noe on April 4, 1952 in Eureka Springs, Ark. She survives of the home.

He worked as a truck driver for Stockade Minerals in Pittsburg before moving to Halstead in 1972. He worked at Bill's Coal Mine in Farlington and later moved to Gallup, N.M. and worked as a mine supervisor for the P. & M. Coal Company. They retired to Grove, Okla. in 1992, moved to Mesa, Ariz. in 2001 and to Girard in 2007.

He enjoyed reading, hunting, woodworking, collecting coins and model cars.

Survivors are daughters Connie Stevens and her husband, Chuck, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Cheryl Ballou and her husband, Paul, of Fort Scott; sons are Carl Fowler and his wife, Sharon, of Girard and J. D. Fowler and his wife, Reesa, of Girard; thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Morris Fowler of Hutchinson and a sister, Madalyn Oleman of Joplin.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ronda Fowler, a great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Ballou, and a brother, Robert Fowler.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery near Pittsburg. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard.
