LEVELLAND, Texas -- Fort Scott Community College's Kyle Grant performed at the NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships here last weekend. Grant, one of 23 athletes to qualify in the high jump, won fourth place at the National Championships and, by clearing 6' 10 3/4", broke the Greyhound school record.

Grant, a freshman, is excited about breaking the school record, but was disappointed in getting fourth place.

"I know I can do better and am looking forward to improving for next year," Grant said.

Grant's coach Robert Spies was very happy with the progress that Grant had made over the past month. Grant is a basketball player at FSCC and after the basketball season approached Spies about jumping this spring.

"The first few meets were rough," Spies said. "But after changing his techniques and a lot of hard work on Kyle's part he really started to improve. I am excited about his chances for next year. He is the most disciplined athlete I know when it comes to performance."
