Annual Mother's Day dinner, Ideal Chapter 369

Beverly Davis, Addi and Ansley Foster drove to Topeka, Saturday, May 3, where Beverly attended the reception and banquet for David Rake, the new Worthy Grand Patron of Kansas O.E.S. Addi and Ansley visited with Addi and Ansley visited with Addi's sisters and her grandparents. They returned home on Sunday.

Laura and Payton Vogelbacher spent the weekend at the Charles Brewer home and attended the activities at the Christian Heights school on Saturday.

Rachel and Kevin Wagner helped at the Country Store on Saturday, at the school.

Deanna Brillhart gave a birthday offering at worship May 4. Pastor Andy's sermon was titled "To Witness Is More Than To See." Scripture was read from Acts 1:1-11 and Luke 24:44-53.

David Schwalm, chair of the Pastor Parish Relations committee announced that the committee had met with Rev. Ron King, District Superintendent and the Pastor Rev. Mary Aikins. She will be the Pastor at Hiattville after July first. Her husband is Pastor at the First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg.

Don't forget the wedding shower for Pastor Andy, May 22, at 7, at the church.

Jessica Schwalm was home from college the weekend of May 3 and attended church with her family.

Beverly Davis and Clara Brewer drove to Pittsburg, May 6, where they attended the bisit and reception for Juanita Phillips, the new District Aide of District 4.

Lorna Slater, Beverly Davis and Lavone Page attended a Bible Study taught by Rev. Dallas Peterson at the U.M.C. in Mound City, May 6.

Mr. and Mrs. Dean Mitchell drove to Lamar, Wednesday, May 7, where they attended their grandson Ben's spring program at his preschool.

Ideal Chapter 369, O.E.S. met May 8, with Beverly Davis and Charles Gift presiding in the East as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron. Visitors were present from Olive Chapter, Fort Scott and Rob Morris Chapter, Pittsburg.

Introduction included the following; Shirley Palmer, Chairman of Education, General Grand Chapter and Grand Trustee of Kansas, Juanita Phillips, District Aide of Dist. 4, Ro Jean Ward special appointment Friend of a feather, and Worthy Matron of Rob Morris Chapter, Edith Peterson, Grand Teller, Sonny Peterson, Membership Committees, and Worthy Patron of Olive Chapter, Norma Booe, Grand Teller and Dee Ward, Worthy Patron of Rob Morris Chapter.

Sue Wheeler was installed in the station of Ruth.

Invitations were received from Valley Center, Weir, Baldwin City, Columbus, Fort Scott, Girard, Chanute, Fulton and Ottawa.

A get well card had been sent to Bill Saker after he had a bad fall.

During the Good of the Order, a ceremony was given for the new District Aide Mrs. Phillips. She was escorted by the Conductress to the stations of Associate Conductress, Associate Matron, and the Star Points, where she was greeted by clever sayings and presented with various items to aid her in her journey this year as a District Aide. After she was returned to the East, Clara Brewer presented her the gift from the chapter. The Worthy Matron also presented her a personal gift.

In her address, Mrs. Phillips told about the Worthy Grand Matron and Worthy Grand Patrons plans for the year. The Charities this year are Heart, Spinal Cord Injury Research and collecting Ronald McDonald Tabby Tops. The general theme is "Family of God". Following her talk, she sang "Bless This House" accompanied by Mattie Nell Dixon as the chapter was celebrating it's 95 birthday.

The secretary gave a brief history of Ideal Chapter. The officers gave a birthday ceremony which was concluded by all singing "Happy Birthday" to the chapter.

All ladies present were asked to stand and the Worthy Matron had a poem about Mothers to honor them. She also presented each one with a small potted plant.

The substitute officers, Dorothy Ketner and Don Wheeler were thanked for filling station of Odah and Sentinel for the evening. Charles and Norma Booe were congratulated on their 36 wedding anniversary.

The coin march for the evening went to Spinal Cord Injury Research.

Jokes were shared by Agnes Armstrong and Karen Endicott--Coyan.

The Worthy Patron shared these words of wisdom with us, "In order to move, a turtle has to stick out his neck, and so must we."

After chapter closed, refreshments were served under the direction of Gayla Croan, which included a beautifully decorated birthday cake and various finger foods.

Clara Brewer accompanied Charles and Paula Brewer to Spring Hill, May 9, where they attended the preschool at Payton Vogelbacher's school. They later enjoyed having dinner with Barry, Laura and Payton.

Rachel, Kevin and Kole Wagner drove to Chanute, Friday evening, where they met several family members and had dinner together to celebrate Mother's Day and the birthday of Kevin's dad, John Wagner.

Lavone Page drove to Iola, Saturday, where she attended the graduation ceremony at the Junior College. Tracy Woodworth was one of the graduates.

Pastor Andy Smith officiated at the wedding of Mike Page and Jennifer Eastwood at the church, Saturday afternoon.

The annual Mother and Daughter supper was held Saturday evening, at the church. Beverly Davis greeted the group in welcome with a beautiful reading about Mothers and Daughters. She also gave the invocation before the delicious carry-in dinner. Following the meal, Glenda Miller introduced the speaker for the evening, Mrs. Carolyn Russell. The theme of her talk was "Patterns for Living" with emphasis on family and following God's patterns for our lives.

Special mothers and daughters were recognized, Clara Brewer was the oldest mother present. Lily Brown was the youngest daughter present. Dora Page had the most family members. Sandra Ellis was the daughter coming the longest distance to attend. There were several families with four generations in attendance.

The dinner tables were decorated with pastel colored cloths, small potted plants, and various items pertaining to sewing. Waiters for the evening were Gavin Fry, Zach and David Schwalm, Joe Ludlum, Lloyd Callow, Ronnie Brown, and Pastor Andy. The closing prayer was given by Glenda Miller.

Sandra Ellis and Kelli Ludlum were welcomed visitors at worship Sunday morning. Beverly Brown and Jamie Collins gave birthday offerings. Special Readings were given in honor of Mothers by Cindy Schwalm and Jamie Collins.

Pastor Andy's sermon was titled "The End or the Beginning." Scripture was read from John 7:37-39 and Acts 2:1-21. At the end of the service, all who wished to participate, were invited to come to the altar and reaffirm their Baptism as this was Pentecost Sunday. The church was decorated with red balloons.
