Tiger baseball splits at Parsons

PARSONS -- Fort Scott High's baseball team run-ruled Parsons in the first game of a Southeast Kansas League doubleheader here Tuesday. But the Vikings bounced back to salvage a split with a 3-1 win in the nightcap.

The Tigers (2-5 in the SEK, 3-6 overall) led 7-0 after two innings and needed only six innings to dispatch the Vikes (4-2, 6-3) in the opener.

Mikey Karleskint led the Tiger offense as he went three for five, scored three runs and drove in one. John Leek , Denton Ramsey, Andre Davis and Lane Farrell each had two of the Tigers' 15 hits. Leek, Ramsey and Davis each drove in three runs.

Alex Pemberton (1-1) allowed six hits and one walk while striking out three in a complete-game victory.

Parsons pitcher Rocky Blackburn held the Tigers to four hits in game two, walking two and punching out six. He also aided his own cause when his fifth-inning double drove in two runs.

Fort Scott didn't get its first hit until the fifth inning when Blake Nelson broke up Blackburn's no-hit bid with a leadoff single.

John Leek (1-1) entered the bottom of the fifth with a three-hitter and a 1-0 lead after Karleskint's run-producing single plated Nelson. But he was chased after back-to-back doubles -- Blackburn's was the second one -- gave Parsons the lead.

Karleskint was two for four in game two.

The Tigers will be in Coffeyville today to take on an improved Golden Tornado squad in an SEK doubleheader. Friday, they go to Nevada for a single varsity contest.
