Senior Swingers Dance stays busy

Wednesday, April 23, 2008

All went well as usual for the Senior Citizen Monday Night Dance at Buck Run Community Center.

The floor was a busy place until 5:30 with big basketball boys. At that time they all left and there were three dance couples to put up tables and chairs and help me on the stage, getting ready for the dance. The coffee was already made, ice water was put out and Lucille had the tables ready with plastic cloths for the snacks the dancers would bring in.

Bill Eshelbrenner came in with a black eye and a badly bruised face. He fell in his front yard and passed out and really doesn't know what all happened. His face looked bad and he said the doctor would check him out again. He stayed awhile but then went home.

There were two couples back, Jessie and Jim Streeter, who have been down south in Arizona for the winter and are glad to be back. They really danced up a storm and Shirley and Rip VanWinkle, who have missed a lot. She had her second knee replacement and is just now getting out on her own. They didn't dance much but it was good to see them and visit.

Betty Crossgrove was back again and danced quite a bit. She had her second knee replacement and is doing fine.

The line dance was big again, this time 22 was the count and all seemed to enjoy it. Alva McNeely does a good job singing and playing for it. We had another one after break time and all went about the same.

We have several older ones that knew how to do the dance "Put Your Little Foot" and those that don't know how, just did their usual two step or set the dance out.

We still have people coming from Lamar, El Dorado, Nevada, Liberal, Pittsburg, Uniontown and of course, Fort Scott. The Forgeys' who moved here from Arizona come pretty regular, however they weren't present tonight.

They have several favorite tunes they like to dance to and we usually play them before the evening is over.

One of the large fans was pulled out on the stage and turned on to help cool everyone down after the dancing started.

There will be a dance at Pittsburg Tuesday night at the community center on Joplin street. It starts at seven p.m.

The dance at Cadmus Friday night is canceled for some of the band to participate in the state Old Time Fiddlers convention. There will be a dance at Nevada, Friday night, at the community center starting at 7 p.m.
