Pleasanton girls third in first varsity meet
ARCHIE, Mo. -- Pleasanton High School's girls track team won nine medals and finished in third place in the Blu-Jays' first varsity meet of the season here Tuesday.
Pleasanton's girls scored 56 points, finishing behind winner Saint Mary's, which scored 144, and runner-up Jasper, Mo., which had 78. The Jays finished six points ahead of fourth-place Butler, Mo. There were 16 schools in the meet.
Pleasanton's boys, also in their first varsity outing, scored 31 points to finish in ninth place. Lone Jack, Mo., won the meet with 97 points followed by Jasper with 91 and Appleton City, Mo., with 65.
Pleasanton was two points behind eighth-place Saint Mary's and three ahead of 10th-place Kansas City (Mo.) Hogan Prep.
Megan Allen won two sprint medals, winning the 100 meters in 13.47 seconds and taking second in the 200 in 28.57. She was the anchor leg on the 4x200-meter relay team that took second in 1:59.15. Michelle Mitchell, Carlee Campbell and Rachel Richmond were the other entrants on the relay.
Additionally, Allen took second in triple jump with a leap of 31 feet, 11 1/2 inches. Campbell was fourth at 28' 10 1/4".
Richmond placed second in high jump with a mark of 4' 10" while Mitchell was third in pole vault at seven feet even.
Richmond ran 2:50.73 in the 800 meters to finish fifth in that event. Campbell rounds out the Pleasanton medal count with her mark of 13' 8" in long jump, which placed sixth.
Pleasanton boys won eight medals. The lone event winner was Chris Duggins in shot put with an effort of 42' 7". T.J. Davis was third in the event at 40' 2 3/4".
The boys' 4x200-meter relay, with Danny McCullough, Daniel Barber, Cody Maloney and Alex Richmond, was third in 1:40.47.
McCullough took fourth in pole vault at 11' 6" while Devan Bailey was sixth at 10 feet even. Duggins placed fifth in discus at 116 feet event. McCullough was sixth in triple jump pat 37' 5 1/2".
The 4x100-meter relay team picked up the final medal as Kodee McKee, Davis, Jeff Fairbanks and Gage Harris ran a 49.54.
Pleasanton's next meet is Tuesday at Southeast-Cherokee. The meet is schedued for a 3 p.m. start.
