Bertha "Betty" Elizabeth Lyons McGrew, 89, formerly of Fulton, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008 at the Countryview Nursing Home in Prescott. She was born Dec. 14, 1918 in Fulton, Kansas, the daughter of Luther Byron and Lucy Christine (Lietch) Lyons.

Betty served in the United States Navy during WWII as a Pharmacists Mate 3rd Class. She worked as a Medical Technologist, and she also farmed.

She is survived by a daughter; Penny Bryant, of Tarpley, Texas, a grandson; Eric Bryant Shaffer, of Houston, Texas, a great-granddaughter; Emily Anne Shaffer, two sisters; Alice Good, of Franklinton, Louisiana, and Peggy Stevens, of Mandeville, Louisiana, two brothers; James "Jerry" Lyons and Laurence "Larry" Lyons, both of Fort Scott, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters; Jane Meeks, and Ruth Mahler, and two brothers; Thomas Lyons, and Donald "Doc" Lyons.

The Rev. William Wolff will conduct graveside services for Betty at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, at the Fort Scott National Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Olson-Frary-Burkhart Post 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
