Fort Scott High's wrestlers swept Coffeyville and Parsons in a Southeast Kansas League triangular at the FSHS gymnasium Thursday night, building big leads in each dual.

The Tigers (2-1 in the SEK, 5-3 overall) beat Coffeyville 45-15 and Parsons 43-24. In the middle bout, Coffeyville gained its first win of the season by beating Parsons, 30-18.

"Two wins are very good things," Fort Scott head coach David Brown said. "We've made some big progress since our last dual at Pittsburg (a loss on Dec. 18). The wrestlers have been working pretty hard, day in and day out doing their job. If we continue that kind of progress, we're going to be in pretty good shape at the end of the season."

Double winners on the mat were Justin Sharp at 112 pounds, Denzell Davis at 119, Blake Cox at 140 and 145 and Blake Cowen at 160. Blake Nelson, at 171, and Andre Davis, at 189, each had one win on the mat and one via forfeit. Jonathan Hoyle and Lee Culbertson, at 135 and 152, respectively, each received two forfeits, but just by being in the lineup picked up 12 points in each dual for the Tigers.

Cowen (3-3), appearing on varsity for the first time since the Eudora Tournament on Dec. 8, racked up two pins. He stuck Coffeyville's Michael Gates just 44 seconds into that match and Parsons' Christian Moerlien in even less time, 30 seconds.

Cox (16-8) won a pair of tight matches, beating Coffeyville's Jared Hensley, 6-1, in a 140-pound bout, then moving up to defeat Parsons' Mike Phillips at 145 pounds, 4-2. Nelson (19-6) pinned Coffeyvillle's Shayden Mason in 38 seconds.

"(Nelson) is moving ahead pretty well in the season right now, and we pretty much expected him to be," Brown said. "Same way with Blake Cox. He wrestled two pretty physical matches. He didn't get to walk out and push someone over. He had to battle and scrap for his two wins tonight. That's a good thing because you learn a lot from that."

Sharp (13-8) took a 5-2 decision over Nick Moore in the Coffeyville dual, then pinned Emilio Burnett in the second period of the Parsons dual.

Denzell Davis (6-4) came from behind to score eight points in the third period of his match with Coffeyville's Evan Hensley to win, 13-9. He pinned Elliott Brewer with 50 seconds left in the opening period of his Parsons bout.

Andre Davis (5-5) was incontrol throughout his dual with Parsons' LaMarcus Brown. He led 5-2 after one period and 10-2 after two on his way to a 15-4 win.

"Andre had a tough kid in terms of a physical kid, pretty athletic," Brown said. "Andre's still going to have to start applying many of his new strategies. I hope that comes with more mat time. He's not had very many matches this season."

Michael Durossette (10-8) was nipped by Coffeyville's Jake Hayden, 10-6, in his first bout at 125 pounds. He was pinned by Parsons' Taylor Boatright at the 1:28 mark of the second period in his other match.

"Durossette losing two tonight was tough," Brown said. "But he's still young and still trying to figure some things out. I know he'll take the video and apply what he learns."

Drew Bryant (2-5) picked up a pin over Coffeyville's Isaiah Grundy but was pinned by Parsons' Scott Bedore at 215 pounds.

Nick Wallace (3-8), making his first appearance since the Pittsburg dual, was pinned in both his matches at heavyweight.

"Drew and Nick are facing some people who outweigh them and have a good amount of experience over them," Brown said. "We hope they can continue to progress and get them into a position where they can be successful."

The Coffeyville-Parsons dual wasn't decided until the last bout. The Vikings (0-3, 0-3) scored conescutive pins at 189 and 215 and had a chance to force a tie with a pin at 285. But Coffeyville's Greg York pinned Trevor Bush to preserve the win for the Golden Tornado (1-2, 1-7).

In junior varsity bouts, all against Parsons, Aaron Judy took a 14-8 win over Justin Ramirez at 189; Cody Phillips was pinned by Josh Hendricks at 215; and Kennet Singmaster was pinned by Bryce Witt at 285.

The varsity team travels to the Paola Tournament Saturday. Action there begins at 9:30 a.m.
