PLEASANTON -- Both Uniontown teams and Jayhawk-Linn's girls advanced into the championship side of the Pleasanton Mid-Season Tournament bracket with victories here Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, both Pleasanton teams and Jayhawk-Linn's boys dropped into consolation play as a result of losses in the opening round.

Tuesday's girls results saw Uniontown beating Prairie View, 46-33, Jayhawk-Linn drubbing Northeast-Arma, 53-27, Central Heights advancing over Crest, 42-24, and Humboldt winning over Pleasanton, 68-50.

On the boys' side, Uniontown downed Prairie View, 48-44, Humboldt won over Northeast, 57-38, Crest thumped Jayhawk-Linn, 49-16, and Central Heights dominated Pleasanton, 62-24.

Tournament play resumes here Thursday. On the girls' side, Pleasanton meets Prairie View in the north gym at 4 p.m while Northeast plays Crest at the same time in the south gym in consolation play. Jayhawk-Linn will take on Central Heights at 7 p.m. in the south gym while Humboldt and Uniontown battle at the same time in the north gym in championship play.

In boys' action, consolation games will be held at 5:30 with Humboldt playing Prairie View in the north gym and Pleasanton against Jayhawk-Linn in the south gym. Championship bracket games will tip off at 8:30 as Uniontown takes on Humboldt in the north gym and Crest meets Central Heights in the south gym.

The Eagles (5-4) jumped out to an 8-0 lead before the game was three minutes old and held a 16-2 advantage with just under 2 1/2 minutes left in the first quarter.

Prairie View (3-6) crept back into the game, getting within 31-29 after Toby Cornejo hit a three-point shot with 1:55 left in the third quarter.

Uniontown gave itself some cushion again as a 10-3 run extended the lead to 44-34 with 1:14 remaining. The Buffalos rallied again but ran out of time.

Jesse Johnston led the Eagles with 17 points while Travis Aikins added 11.

Cornejo led all scorers with 22 points as he connected on four three-point field goals.

After both teams got off to an ugly start, the Eagles (3-6) pulled away in the second period to lead 23-15 at halftime.

Riley Stephens hit three straight jumpers early in the third period to extend the lead to 29-18. The Buffalos (1-8) took advantage of some turnovers later in the quarter to get within 33-25 as the fourth quarter got underway.

Prairie View was still within 39-33 with three minutes remaining but Uniontown didn't allow the Buffs to score again.

Stephens led all scorers with 13 points while Jayme Shank added 10 for the Eagles. Rosanna Spencer led Prairie View with nine points.

Jayhawk-Linn girls 53, Northeast-Arma 27.

Kaylee Brownback's 13 points led the Jayhawks (5-3) in a game that wasn't close for very long. Jayhawk-Linn led 14-4 after one period and 31-17 at halftime.

The Jayhawks also outscored the Vikings 22-8 in the second half.

Tiffany Webb led Northeast with nine points.

Humboldt 68, Pleasanton girls 50.

Pleasanton's Michelle Mitchell (25) passes the ball away from Humboldt's Lenzie Boring (30) and Randi Barnett during the first half of play of a Pleasanton Mid-Season Tournament game Tuesday night. Although the Blu-Jays had one of their better efforts of the season, the higher-seeded Cubs took a 68-50 victory (Captured Images/Kenny Felt).

The Blu-Jays (1-8) had one of their better starts this season, hanging within 13-11 near the end of the first quarter before Humboldt finished off the period with four straight points.

Pleasanton stayed with their game plan and found themselves within 27-29 with 18 seconds to go after a 6-0 run. Humboldt's Randi Barnett hit a three-point shot just before the buzzer sounded and the Cubs carried that momentum over into the second half, extending the lead to 50-37 after three periods.

Megan Allen scored six of Pleasanton's first nine points and finished with a season-high 15. Carlee Campbell followed with 13 points, also a season high.

Kelci Owens hit three three-point shots -- two of them in the first quarter -- and led Humboldt with 24 points. Lenzie Boring, who also made three triples, added 15 points while Barnett finished with 10.

Humboldt hit seven three-pointers as a team.

Central Heights boys 62, Pleasanton 24.

The Vikings (4-4) had been in a scoring rut before this game, scoring no more than 48 points in their previous three games.

Unfortunately for the Blu-Jays, Central Heights broke out of that slump, leading 23-8 after one period and 42-14 at the half.

The Vikings went on a 15-0 run just before the half, giving them control and a 30-point lead before Jeff Fairbanks broke the run with a shot with five seconds left to go.

Jaron Leach, who made four of Heights' five three-point shots, finished with a game-high 22 points. Adam Horstick and Jordan Welch scored 12 points each.

Adam Peters led the Blu-Jays (2-7) with eight points.

Crest 49, Jayhawk-Linn boys 16.

The Lancers (7-1) led 16-4 after one period and 32-6 at halftime. Brothers Brandon and Bryce Newton each scored 14 points to set the pace for Crest while Todd Johnston added 11.

Clayton Dierkson and Kris Bogan each had four points for Jayhawk-Linn (1-7).

Humboldt boys 57, Northeast-Arma 38.

The Cubs, ranked No. 7 in Class 2A in the latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association poll, broke open a game that was tied 12-12 after one period by outscoring Northeast 32-15 over the middle two quarters.

Corey Henshall led Humboldt with 21 points while Zach Cole scored 14. Jordan Doherty and Danny Davied each scored 10 for Northeast.

Central Heights girls 42, Crest 24.

Heights (3-4) led 17-4 after one quarter and 25-5 at halftime. Crest (1-7) scored almost half its points in the fourth quarter.

Despite the wide margin, only one player made double figures in scoring for the Vikings: Kelly Adkinson with 10 points. Brittany Newton led Crest with nine.
