Mercy to present free women's event themed, 'A New Year, A New You'

Friday, December 28, 2007

Mercy Health Center, a Spirit of Women hospital, is offering the first in a series of free "health-u-tainment" events for women in 2008 with a program called "A New Year, A New You."

The event will be held Thursday, Jan. 10, at the Liberty Theatre, 113 S. Main, in Fort Scott. The first program begins at 4:30 p.m. and will be offered again at 7 p.m. Liberty Theatre is a corporate partner with Mercy in sponsoring this series of programs in the coming year. Arrangements for the evening are under the direction of Mary Wynn, director of employee health at Mercy.

The evening will feature comedian Marian Kelly, who first performed at the Body, Mind and Spirit event in 2006. She will team up with local physician Dr. David Parris and Raymond James financial advisor Tim Emerson to entertain and inform area women on how to tackle weight loss and digestive health as well as how to achieve financial freedom.

"This is an opportunity for women to start the New Year off right with a healthy dose of laughter as only Marian can deliver and to take away with them some valuable information on achieving their goals in 2008," said Carla Farmer, director of marketing and development.

Attendees will also be able to enjoy a variety of healthy and tasty hors d'oeuvres and beverages at the beginning of each performance.

Admission is free but tickets are required. Tickets may be picked up at the registration desk at Mercy Health Center, Mercy Medical Plaza registration desk, 902 S. Horton, or the Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce. There is a limit of two tickets per person.

Each person will receive a packet of information to take home with them along with an opportunity to register for door prizes during each presentation.

Mercy became a Spirit of Women hospital in 2007. Spirit of Women is a coalition of hospitals and healthcare providers across the United States that ascribe to the highest standards of excellence in women's health, education and community outreach.
