Bourbon County 4-Hers come together at annual banquet

The annual 4-H Achievement Banquet was conducted Friday evening, Nov. 2, to honor 4-H members for their achievements this past year. The annual event is hosted by the Bourbon County Farm Bureau, and the meal is provided by donations from area businesses.

Awards were given to approximately 150 4-H members and leaders. This year's theme was "Bourbon County Presents the Best of 4-H Watch the Stars Shine." Jim and Janet O'Brien were honored with the Extension Appreciation award, which is given annually for support of the extension program.

The Fred and Doris Fink 4-H Scholarship was awarded to 4-H member Tim Murphy.

Jan Beene awarded Fort Scott Community College 4-H Scholarships to: 4-H members Elizabeth Meech and Sabrina Minor.

The 2007 Key Award recipients are Sabrina Minor, Northeast Scott 4-H Club, and Riley Stephens, Uniontown 4-H Club.

Representing Bourbon County in the Area Record Screening for 2007, Amanda Brown, Hiattville 4-H Club, Leadership; Elizabeth Meech, Northeast Scott 4-H Club, Horse; Haley Melton, Goodluck 4-H Club, Meat Goats; and Cheyenne Wiley, Northeast Scott 4-H Club,Swine.

Officer awards were presented to Katelyn Vincent, Hiattville 4-H Club Secretary; Jared Snyder, Northeast Scott 4-H Club Treasurer; David Ericson, Hiattville 4-H Club Reporter; and Drew George, Uniontown 4-H Club Historian.

The Gold Guard Pin was given to Hiattville 4-H Club, Amanda Brown; Northeast Scott 4-H Club, Elizabeth Meech, Jared Snyder, Uniontown 4-H Club, Holli Zeilner.

Gold Achievement Pin recipient were Hiattville 4-H Club, Bethany Ericson; Northeast Scott 4-H Club, Cheyenne Wiley.

Junior Leadership Pin recipients were Hiattville 4-H Club, David Ericson, Tanner Howard, Cassie Schwalm, and Katelyn Vincent; Northeast Scott 4-H Club, J.W. Meech; Uniontown 4-H Club, Cole George, Drew George, and Caitlin Jackson.

Receiving the Silver Guard Pin were Goodluck 4-H Club, Haley Melton; and Northwest Scott 4-H Club, Taylor Bailey.

Silver Pins were given to Goodluck 4-H Club, Melanie Herder; Northeast Scott 4-H Club, Sadie Moore; and Uniontown 4-H Club, Kelli Wilkinson.

Membership Pins were given to the following 1st year members: Goodluck 4-H Club, Jackson Ewalt, Ethan Herder, Brett Stark, Lauren Stark; Northeast Scott 4-H Club, Ryann Allison, Hayden Cole, Kamryn Combs, John Emmerson, Clayton Kline, Mallory Westhoff; Northwest Scott 4-H Club, William Harding, Aaron West; Pawnee 4-H Club, Austin Chadd, and Jacob Pemberton. Purple Seals were awarded to Hiattville 4-H Club, Northeast Scott 4-H Club, Pawnee 4-H Club, and Uniontown 4-H Club. Receiving the Blue Seal were Goodluck 4-H Club and the Red Seal was given to Northwest Scott 4-H Club. This award is given to the clubs for the work they have done in reaching many goals set throughout the 4-H year.

Teen Project Leader, 1st year, was Sabrina Minor, Northeast Scott 4-H Club.

Community and Project Leaders were as follows: 1st year, Goodluck 4-H Club, Kelli Crystal, Mitch Crystal, Shannon Henderson; Hiattville 4-H Club, Julie Fry; Northeast Scott 4-H Club, Tim Allison; Pawnee 4-H Club, Kendell Mason and Robin Webb. County Wide Project Leaders were as follows: Third year: Rhonda Bailey, Junior Leaders; and Gary Palmer, Photography. Fourth year: Gary Buntain, 4-H Shooting Sports. Seventh Year: Lou Howard, Junior Leaders. Seventeenth year: Darrel George, Horsemanship; Laura George, Horsemanship. Twenty -fourth year: Shirley Palmer, Plant Science; Doug Simpson, 4-H Shooting Sports; and Twenty-sixth Year: Kevin Gleason, Livestock and Meat Judging.
