Eagles swept in home league matches

UNIONTOWN -- A rare thing happened at the West Bourbon Elementary School gymnasium here Tuesday night as Uniontown's volleyball team was swept by Southern Coffey County and St. Paul in Three Rivers League play.

Losing at home is rare enough but the sweep -- although SCCHS and St. Paul have been playing well this season -- was a bitter pill for head coach Jackie Hall to swallow.

"We are disappointed in our loss last night," Hall said. "We didn't play that bad (but) we could never seem to get on track. We had problems in communication, getting into some of our coverages and holding serve. But all of these things are fixable so we will continue to make adjustments. This group of girls is willing to try different things to make the necessary adjustments for the team."

Southern Coffey County won its match against Uniontown, 25-22, 25-22, then defeated St. Paul, 25-17, 25-22.

St. Paul then beat the Eagles, 25-23, 25-19.

Uniontown fell to 1-3 in the TRL and 8-7 overall. The Eagles will play in the Cherryvale Tournament Saturday.

In junior varsity play, Uniontown was the one recording the sweep. The Eagles beat St. Paul, 25-6, 10-25, 15-8, and SCCHS, 25-23, 25-19.

The JV Eagles improved to 16-4. They will go to Chetopa with the varsity next Tuesday. Marmaton Valley will also be there.
