Vercie Lord, 78, of Ooltewah, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at her residence. She was born Jan. 15, 1929, in Fort Scott, Kan., the daughter of the late Alec and Louise (Pellett) Stroud and was preceded in death by her son Ronald Lord and two sisters, Marietta Poyner and Doris Holmes. Vercie was a retired supervisor for AT&T. She was of the Baptist faith, and she loved spending time with all her family. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn (David) Porter, Marjorie Gilley, daughter-in-law, Sheryl Lord, son-in-law, Harry Gilley, grandchildren, Charlene (Charlie) Patton, Cara (John) Woodall, David (Leann) Porter, Jr., Christine (Todd) Clay, Marlo (Lee) Lowry, Ben (Sherri) Gilley, Jr., Katrina (Tyler) Swafford, Angie (Eric) Farmer, Chris Lord, Montrell Lord, great-grandchildren, Shandi and Jessica Gilley, Nicholas Porter, Sara and Michael Patton, Kelsey and Alex Porter, Trey and Jason Gilley, Hope and Hailey Clay, Caleb and Joshua Woodall, Christian and Emme Swafford, Miranda Farmer, brother, Harold Stroud, sister, Ava Gibson, and several nieces and nephews. Rev. R.B. Shoemaker will officiate local graveside services Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007 at 3:30 p.m. at Pleasant View Cemetery in Garland, Kan. The family will receive friends at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home at 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, prior to the service. Services are under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall Street, Fort Scott, Kan., 66701.
