J-Linn sweeps extra-large Three Rivers League Relays

PLEASANTON -- Jayhawk-Linn swept the boys' and girls' titles at the Three Rivers League relays here Friday with both teams posting large scores in an extra-large meet. Uniontown and Pleasanton finished second and third on each side as well.

This meet had all nine current TRL members plus St. Paul and Chetopa of the Mineral Belt League, which did not hold a championship this year.

Jayhawk boys scored 200 points as the meet scored to eight places. The girls scored 199 points. And there could have been more but weather forced the cancellation of the final event, the 4x400-meter relay.

Uniontown's boys placed second with 160 points followed by Pleasanton with 97. On the girls' side, it was Pleasanton in second with 101 points followed by the Eagles with 94.

The list of event winners begins with Jayhawk-Linn's boys. Ryan Sutherland took the 800-meter run in 2:15.25, Dwight Long the 1,600 in 4:58.24, Briar Snyder the 110-meter hurdles in 15.32 and the 300 hurdles in 42.47 and Steven Mann the long jump with a mark of 20 feet, 3 3/4 inches and the triple jump at 41' 9 1/2". The 4x800-meter relay team ran a 9:29.74 in winning.

Uniontown champs were Gage McKinnis in the 100 meters in 11.34, Brandon Boyd in the 200 in 22.91 and the high jump at six feet even, Dominick Robinson shot put at 47' 3" and Jamie Shelton the javelin with a mark of 143' 8". The 4x100-meter relay team of George Pillion, Zack Mason, Boyd and McKinnis was first in 44.91.

Pleasanton winners were Alex Richmond in the 400 meters in 52.58, Bryant Mendel the 3,200 in 11:31.22 and Danny McCullough the pole vault at 12' 1", which set a new school record.

The only boys' event that was completed that Jayhawk-Linn, Uniontown or Pleasanton did not win was discus. Dane Birk of Southern Coffey County was the champ there at 140' 9".

Jayhawk-Linn's girls' champs were Brogan Hoover in the 800 meters in 2:36.81, Stephanie Mayhugh in the 1,600 in 6:03.83, Sylvia Grant in the 3,200 in 13:25.69, Morgan Eastwood in the 300-meter hurdles in 47.89, Taylor Dawson in long jump with an effort of 16' 7 3/4", and both the 4x100 relay in 52.31 and the 4x800 relay in 10:29.58.

Pleasanton winners were Megan Allen in the 100 and 200 meters in 13.00 and 27.30, respectively and Michelle Mitchell in pole vault at 8' 3", which also broke the school record.

Uniontown's only event winner was Kylie Shepard, who took javelin with a heave of 95' 3".

Jayhawk-Linn's teams will compete at the Fredonia Class 3A Regional Meet Friday. Field events begin at 3 with track preliminaries starting at 4. Track finals will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the prelims.

Uniontown and Pleasanton will both attend the Yates Center Class 3A Regional Meet Friday. Field events get underway at 3 with track prelims to start at 4 and track finals to begin at 5:30.
