City Commission candidate forum 5:30 p.m. Tuesday

Monday, March 26, 2007

Local residents interested in learning where local city commission candidates' stand on important issues may do so during a public forum scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fort Scott Middle School, 1105 E. 12th St.

The forum is sponsored by the Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce.

FSACC Government and Community Quality Division Chairwoman Carla Bryant Farmer said each candidate will present an opening statement, and will then answer questions from the chamber's Legislative Committee and members of the audience. Following the question-and-answer session, each candidate will then deliver a closing statement.

All participants will be required to follow time limit guidelines in formulating their responses.

"The chamber sponsors these forums to provide citizens the opportunity to hear the candidates' positions in depth on the issues which are pertinent to our area's future growth and development," Farmer said. "We certainly hope that our citizens will take the time to attend and listen to these candidates who wish to be our governmental representatives."

FSACC Legislative Committee Chairman Mark McCoy will serve as moderator for the forum. With high attendance expected, chamber officials are urging local residents to arrive early.
