Katherine Roof received a telephone call announcing to her that there would be flowers delivered to her door at 5 p.m. There was a knock at the door promptly at 5 p.m., and answering the knock she found her nephew Bob Nizich, San Pedro, Ca., holding a bouquet of yellow roses! Bob Nizich visited here from Tuesday through Thursday, and was registered at the Lyons House in Fort Scott. Earlier this summer Katherine's son, Mitch Roof, Holly Springs, North Carolina, visited here, also.

The Uniontown Senior Citizens met Aug. 29, at the Community Center for a potluck dinner, with the invocation given by Alice Clayton. Ten members were present, and any one who is interested may attend thee meetings. The "guess what" was won by Ruth Wilson.

The business meeting was held following the meal. President Rita Peterson, presided, and reported on the Sock Meeting held in Iola in August, and passed out literature. The speaker at the Sock meeting spoke on the importance of water consumption. for adults and children alike, who do not get as thirsty as older people, and should watch their water intake. The human body is mostly made up of water, which needs to be replenished. The speaker advised that you should keep water handy through the day and evening activities. Some of those attending told of their system to drink more water. There was a pamphlet available on "Liquid Assets, The Value of Fluids to Your Health."

The next Sock meeting will be the first meeting in October. The meeting was dismissed, and all enjoyed visiting.

Mr. Les Homan, Manteca, Ca. visited his mother, Hattie Homan and his brother, Danny Homan, spending a week here. He came for his High School Reunion, class of 1966, last weekend. The event was held at the Wyatt Earp Bed and Breakfast, in Uniontown. He also visited his wife Mary's parents Goldie and Merle Koppa at Hiattville, before returning home.

The American Baptist Women of the First Missionary Baptist Church met on Tuesday, Sept. 5, in the education building at the church. The meeting was called to order by President Alice Clayton. Who gave the opening prayer. Roll call was answered by "Something about your first day of school." Their Senior Member, Katherine Roof, who will be 100 years old in April, had an unusual roll call, in telling about her first year of grade school. She had a younger brother who cried all day after she was gone. Later the parents took her out of school and held her over until the next year.

Seven reported they had read the book of the month which was Amos. There were 49 sunshine calls reported. Eleven members were present.

The ladies of the United Methodist Women served the funeral dinner at the church for the family of Mary Pritchett on Tuesday. Fried chicken and dishes to compliment the meat were served.

Pauline Hartman, President of the United Methodist Women announces the following dates: 9:30 a.m. Sept. 20, UMW meeting and work day; Oct. 11, UMW and work day; Oct. 12, Roxie Draper Memorial Dinner: She urges attendance for these important dates.

Dewaine and Beverly Geiger spent last weekend in Wichita attending the meeting of the Trustees of the Kansas Masonic Home on Saturday morning. This group supports benevolent projects to further finances at the Home, the last event being a golf tournament in Wichita, in August, which netted a nice sum for charitable projects. Following their meeting they were invited to have lunch in the dining room with other members. Saturday afternoon they drove to the home of their daughter, Becky and Joe Brown for a visit. Later in the evening they had dinner at an Italian restaurant. Sunday morning the Brown's joined them for the dedication services of the Eastern Star Chapel at the Masonic Home which was celebrating a continuance of 100 years. The historic old chapel was built in 1906 to provide a place of worship for the Masonic Home, family, children and aged alike. It was fortunate that the chapel survived the devastating fire which consumed the Masonic Home in 1916. The chapel with many stained glass windows donated by Masonic Orders is beautiful, and entering through the door one feels security, peace, and beauty.

Worthy Grand Matron Nancy Zook and her Grand Officers arranged the program, assisted by Past Worthy Grand Patrons Robert Ott, and Dewaine Geiger, Past Worthy Grand Matron Pauline Yockey, Past Grand Master Clifford Kanuss, Past Worthy Grand Patron Walter Smith was soloist, Grand Ruth Beverly Davis, Ideal Chapter, Hiattville, and District Aide Clara Brewer, also Ideal Chapter, attended from this area.
