Gary and Lynda Foster and Beverly Davis recently enjoyed a trip to Seattle, Wash. and other points of interest along the west coast.

Rachel, Kevin, Kayla and Kole Wagner, Laura and Payton Vogelbacher helped Charles and Paula Brewer celebrate their 39th wedding anniversary Saturday evening by having supper with them.

Beverly Davis and Clara Brewer drove to Caldwell, Kan. on Sept. 9 where they attended an Eastern Star school of instruction conducted by Worthy Grand Matron Nancy Zook. On Sunday they attended the 100th anniversary celebration of the OES Chapel at the Kansas Masonic Home in Wichita. There was a rededication ceremony for the chapel. Past Grand Patron Dewaine Geiger and member of Ideal Chapter was one of the speakers at the ceremony. Mrs Geiger and Mrs. Joe Brown, also members of Ideal Chapter were in attendance, too, Everyone in attendance were guests of the home for a lovely luncheon.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brewer, Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Wagner, Kayla and Kole attended the 50th wedding anniversary celebration for Kevin's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Wagner at the LaHarpe VFW Hall on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 10.

Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Callow and their house guest Juanita Crane of Michigan, enjoyed spending a few days of the week of Sept. 4 in Branson, Mo. and attending several shows.

If anyone in the community is interested in attending the "Living Christmas Tree" performance at the Ozark Christian College on Dec. 3, let your correspondent know by Sept. 30. The cost of the bus trip will be $25 per person this year. It is always a beautiful performance. Please call Clara Brewer at (620) 547-2565.

Visitors welcomed at worship on Sept. 10 were cousins of Ken Keeney. Pastor Dallas Peterson's sermon was titled "A Time To Heal." Scripture was read from Proverbs 22: 1-2, 8-9, 22-23 and Mark 7: 24-37. Worship assistants for the month are Ushers Clara Brewer and Judy Tripp; Greeters Don and Betty Gauthier and Liturgist Ron Brown.

The community potluck was held on Sept. 9 with several in attendance.

The United Methodist Women unit resumed their monthly meeting on Sept. 11 after a two month vacation. Glenda Miller presided and opened the meeting by asking the members to join her in repeating the "Purpose." Roll call was answered by seven members telling where they first started school and telling a favorite memory.

Lavone Page gave devotions that had been prepared by Judy Tripp.

Everyone present took part in the lesson led by Glenda Miller. The lesson was based on sunflowers and how they relate to many scriptures in the Bible.

Clara Brewer gave a report from the Prayer Calendar, telling about a retired missionary that had worked in Cuba and still continues his work there. Scripture was read from Romans 10: 9-15.

Mabel Miller gave the "Response" moment telling about the assembly that was held in May in California.

During the business meetings, discussion was held about how the unit might help the Rural Fire Department.

Patty Gauthier as chairperson of the nominating committee presented the following slate of the officers to serve in 2007: President Glenda Miller; Vice President Patty Gauthier; Secretary Lavone Page; Treasurer Mabel Miller, also secretary of Program Resources; Spiritual Growth Judy Tripp; Social Action Dora Page and Tammy Queen; Education and Interpretation Beverly Davis and Mary Hay; Membership, Nurture and Outreach by all members. Beverly Davis and Clara Brewer will continue to coordinate funeral dinners.

On proper motion, the slate of officers as present were elected. A contribution was voted to help purchase paint for the Pleasant Valley Church.

Regina Woodworth of Iola and Glenda Miller will lead a mission study on "Peace, Peace, Shalom" at the church on Oct. 7, beginning at 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The ladies of Hiattville unit will provide the noon meal. Area churches are invited to attend and participate in this study. Beverly Davis volunteered to provide crackers and relishes for the meal.

Many are listed as prayer concerns. The meeting was closed by prayer by Glenda Miller. She served refreshments of orange sherbet, tiny muffins and ice tea. The next meeting will be Oct. 9. Mabel Miller will be lesson leader.

Beverly Davis and Clara Brewer were among the group attending the visitation for Norris Attkisson at the funeral home in Girard. He was a long time member of the former Emera Chapter OES in Hepler. In later years, he was a member of Ideal Chapter No. 369 in Hiattville. Sympathy is extended to the family.
