REX McELMURRY
Charles Rex McElmurry, 87, of Fort Scott, died Friday evening, Jan. 25, 2013, at Fort Scott Mercy Hospital. He was born June 23, 1925, in Potterville, Mo., the son of James Vernon and Rose Mae Sieglar McElmurry. He married Alice Louise Clarida on Feb. 12, 1950, in Huntsville, Ark.
Rex was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, camp and fish. He started Rex Electric in 1956 and retired after 50 years of service. He was a 50-year member of the Rising Sun Lodge No. 8 A.F. & A.M., a member of the Fort Scott Scottish Rite Bodies, he was a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a DeMolay Dad, a member of the Oriental Band and was in charge of Wardrobe for many years. He was also a member of the St. John's United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years; Alice, of the home, four grandchildren, Shay Wehmer and David Medley of Springfield, Mo., Tanna Truitt of Alabama, Ashley Littleton and husband Dan of Fort Scott, and Chip McElmurry of Fort Scott; four great-grandchildren, Robert and William Wehmer of Springfield, Mo, Austin Truitt of Alabama, and Harley Littleton of Fort Scott, as well as a new addition to the family expected this July, a twin brother; Ray McElmurry of Santa Cruz, Calif., a sister Ella Mae Stone and husband Max of Bakersfield, Calif., a sister-in law; Pat and husband; Richard Clark of Kansas City, Kan., and several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his son Chuck, his parents, four sisters, June, Gwen, Deloris, and Oleata and two brothers; Olaff and Elrod. Rex most enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who called him "Papa."
Pastor Donna Clark-Fuller will officiate funeral services at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens of Bourbon County Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening Jan. 30, 2013, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home, with a Rose Croix Service beginning at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to either the Mirza Shrine Temple Transportation Fund or the St. John's United Methodist Church.
