College debate, forensics fare well

The Fort Scott Community College debate and forensics team started off the new semester competing in Great Bend at Barton County.

Along with Kansas, the tournament brought in teams from Texas and Nebraska. Although the Greyhounds didn't place as a team, just 10 points out of third, several individuals had solid performances.

Jessica Wells put together her best tournament of the year placing in all three of her events. Wells was third in both Informative and Persuasive speaking and earned her way into the final round of Lincoln-Douglas debate before dropping to finish as the runner-up.

These three placings were good enough to also earn Wells recognition as the third-place overall competitor for the entire tournament. Kait Doherty was also a standout, ending the day as the champion in Prose. She paired this with a fifth-place Dramatic Interpretation (DI) finish. Joining Doherty in DI finals was new team member and first-time college competitor Becky Lemke who placed fourth.

Garic Tinsley was fifth in poetry and joined partner Addi Brown for a sixth-place finish in Duo Interpretation.
