GED enrollment now under way

Friday, January 4, 2013

Enrollment is now under way for the next session of adult basic education classes at Fort Scott Community College. Residents interested in completing work to obtain their General Educational Development (GED) diploma or improve their basic skills may contact the FSCC Adult Basic Education Center at (620) 223-2700, ext. 4400 or 4270.

Sessions are offered at 9 a.m.--noon, 1 to 4 p.m., and 4 to 7 p.m. The next class orientation begins Jan. 15 and will run for approximately three hours each day, Tuesday through Thursday.

Once participants have completed the orientation, classes are held Monday through Thursday until the student has reached his or her goal. Instructors for the six-week course are Ashley Keylon and Angela Christy.

Those 16 or 17 years of age must have been un-enrolled from high school and provide documentation of such. A valid ID or driver's license must also be provided. Participants will not be allowed to take the Official Practice Tests for the GED, which is required, unless some form of identification is provided and all required paperwork is complete. Cost for the class is $25, which covers the Official Practice Test fee, COMPASS college entrance exam and WorkKeys Employment Skills Test, in addition to transition services. It is preferred that the $25 fee is paid prior to the first week of class. The GED test fee is $90, due when you register for the test. Another orientation is scheduled for March 5.
