Mary Francis Brooker, age 81, a resident of rural Fort Scott, Kan., lost her battle with cancer Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at St. John's Hospital in Leavenworth, Kan. She was born March 30, 1931, in Chariton County, Mo., the daughter of Edwin Munson and Edith Ellen Lunceford Munson.

Mary had worked for both Armour and Swift Packing Cos. in Kansas City. She married Pat Warren Brooker on July 15, 1966, at Nowata, Okla. He preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 1997. She was a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she had served as treasurer, the V.F.W. Post No. 2175 Auxiliary of Nevada, Mo., and the Old Fort Sharp-Shooters Association. Mary loved life, her family and her friends.

Survivors include a son, Charles Shelton, of Fort Scott; three granddaughters and a grandson. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and her beloved dogs, Tar Baby, Frankie Lee and Foxy. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Frank Shelton; a daughter, Margie Gray; a granddaughter, Mary Jean Shelton, five brothers, William, Calvin, Willard, Roy Ross, and Romie Lee; and four sisters, Lula, Lola, Gertrude, and Virginia.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Following funeral services there will be cremation and private burial will take placed at a later date in the Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Memorials are suggested to Paws and Claws Animal Shelter and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S.
