Eagles sweep, earn top seed in home Sub-State
MORAN -- Uniontown's volleyball team finished the regular season with a sweep in a non-league triangular here Tuesday night. The Eagles (26-9) beat Pleasanton, 25-11, 25-15, and Marmaton Valley, 25-15, 25-12.
The sweep allowed Uniontown to earn the top seed in the Class 2A Sub-State Tournament it will host Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. at the West Bourbon Elementary gymnasium. The Eagles finished with one fewer loss than No. 2 seed Oswego (26-10).
In Tuesday's opener, Hayden Rathbun had 3 kills and Emily Shinn had 3 block assists. Brit Stokes handed out 16 assists.
In the Marmaton Valley match, Rathbun had 7 kills, Shinn 5 blocks and Stokes 12 assists.
"I was proud of the way the team played," Uniontown head coach Jackie Hall said. "They stayed every focused and worked on doing the little things we have been trying to improve upon."
The Eagles will play the first match of the day Saturday afternoon against No. 8 Northeast (6-26). That will be followed by a match between No. 4 Pleasanton (21-16) and No. 5 Lyndon (16-18). Uniontown will play the winner of that match in the first semifinal.
The third match will feature Oswego against No. 7 Marais des Cygnes Valley (5-20). The final match of the first round pits No. 6 Yates Center (15-21) against No. 3 Lawrence Bishop Seabury (18-12). The winners of those matches will square off the second semifinal. The championship match follows that.
JUNIOR VARSITY -- The Eagles beat Pleasanton, 18-25, 25-12, 15-7. Jana Wilkinson served 7 points. Uniontown defeated Marmaton Valley, 25-15, 25-22, as Tyeesha Perry served 11 points. This was the final match of the season for the Uniontown JV.
